Since its establishment, YATF has worked to meet the demands of independent artists throughout the Arab region, exploring new artistic sensibilities and developing links and cultural spaces conducive to creativity and critical engagement.
Among others, YATF supported more than twenty cultural spaces in the region. These include the Garage Theatre, the Windows Theatre in El-Minia, the Factory space at the Townhouse Gallery in Cairo, Ness El Fen Space in Tunisia, Metropolis cinema in Beirut and the temporary exhibition space "The House" in Amman.
In 2005, YATF constructed the Garden Theatre in Cairo in collaboration with the El Mawred (Cultural Resource) and supported the rehabilitation of the Versailles Cinema in Amman.
At the same time, many other independent spaces were launched in the region and although most of them are successfully functional, many lack basic structural support and are not sufficiently equipped to exhibit works or performances with advanced technical requirements.
YATF recognizes the latent potential in these spaces to form networks for regional mobility and exchange and the positive impact that may have on contemporary artistic practices in the region.
Through the Arts & Culture Spaces program, YATF offers support the technical and structural needs of cultural spaces in the Arab speaking countries. The main objective of this program will be to ensure the sustainability of existing and emerging cultural spaces and encourage the establishment of new ones.
Grants for this program range from 12,000 Euros to 25,000 Euros. Grants can cover rent, salaries and operational costs for a period of 1-2 years or for the establishment of new spaces.
